Kidecals – Labels as Tough As Your Kids!

Posted on November 24, 2014 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in $$ Moderately Priced, Browse By Price, Family, Gear, Nationwide, Safety, Statewide .
Kidecals Labels

Kidecals LabelsAwhile back I was looking for some custom labels for our kid’s gear and discovered Kidecals! I had a chance to checkout their site, and was intrigued about just how durable their products would be. With an almost 3 year old, we have found that he tends to misplace things and his stuff takes quite a beating. Not that he is carrying around high dollar items, but it’s great to know that if he leaves his cup at school, we can probably get it back. For his “uck” as he calls it, we were using a sharpie marker on the bottom, but after a few washes we would need to start the entire process all over again.

We actually have quite a bit of gear come to think about it.. Between lunch boxes, cups, “blankies”, favorite toys, and more, there are actually quite a few things that could benefit from a label. We figured we would give Kidecals a shot but didn’t quite know what to order. Since the Mrs. is generally the one that keeps remarking all of our gear (due to the much better handwriting), I figured she should be the one to place the order. She had different sizes, designs and all sorts of choices to choose from! Cute little pigs, boats, and all sorts of designs were available. It turns out that they do all of their own designs in-house and Kidecals has put lots of effort into making their labels unique, colorful and pretty cool! Continue reading →

Get A FREE Gun Lock From Project ChildSafe

Posted on July 24, 2014 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in Browse By Price, Family, FREE, Gear, Nationwide, Safety, Statewide .

In the past I have brought up the idea of gun safety. I’m not going to try to preach to you or tell you which way your family should lean on this issue. Instead I just want to give you some helpful information to help try to save a few lives. It’s no secret that while I’m traveling, especially with my family I am able to defend not only myself but also to legally protect those that I love. This does pose a bit of a problem for me especially when kids are involved.  I wanted to take a moment to let you know that you can get a FREE gun lock from Project ChildSafe!

Since the little guys are still a bit too little for camping, we occasionally get a hotel room when we venture far away from the house. We generally stay at Holiday Inns or Holiday Inn Express locations, as we have found them to be a great value. Because they are all independently owned and operated, there can be quite a variety of amenities and not all of them have in room safes. At night when it’s time to turn in for the night, I generally breakdown my firearm and place in the in room safe away from curious hands. For locations though that don’t offer this amenity, I had to find another solution. Continue reading →

My Buddy Tag – Keep Your Kids Close!

As our little guy becomes more independent, we have been checking out the child safety identification options available. I reached out to the makers of my Buddy Tag and they agreed to let us test one of their child proximity systems. I’m a bit of a tech guy, so the thought of an electronic option appealed to me.

So what exactly is a my Buddy Tag? In a nutshell, my Buddy Tag is a bluetooth device about the size of a quarter that can help alert you if your child gets too far away. The my Buddy Tag syncs with your cell phone to be able to provide an interactive experience.  Right off the bat,

I want to point out this little gizmo is not an electronic babysitter, and is not a replacement for responsible adult supervision. What we did find though, is that it’s a great tool for when you’re on a family adventure and you want a backup alert as a reminder.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you finally bought something in the store that you really wanted and you just couldn’t resist tearing the package open on the way home? That was the way I felt when I received the my Buddy Tag in the mail. I tore into the packaging and immediately downloaded the free iPhone application. If you’re not a fan of apple and instead have an android, don’t worry its available on that platform as well. From what I’m told, the applications have been recently redesigned as the instructions included in the my Buddy Tag package seemed a bit out of date. Not that big of a deal though, as it was pretty simple to figure out. Within a few minutes I was playing digital hide and seek with my little guy in the house! Now all we needed was a real life test to see if the my Buddy Tag system could be an effective tool. Continue reading →

SafetyTat – Child Safety Temporary Tattoos

Posted on June 1, 2014 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in $$ Moderately Priced, Browse By Price, Family, Gear, Nationwide, Safety, Statewide, Technology .

The package comes with complete instructions. The white blob was just to edit out our phone numbers.

Recently we have been testing multiple child safety products, and at the recommendation of one of our readers I reached out to SafetyTat, the makers of Child Safety Temporary tattoos. At first I didn’t quite know what to think of temporary tattoos. I mean, it’s one thing to put a wristband on my little guy, but to actually put something that is directly on his skin is a different story. We are constantly on the go, and usually in large crowds for festivals and events, and losing my child is a very real fear of mine and any parent, so I figured I would give the SafetyTat Child Safety Temporary Tattoos a try.

Once we received our SafetyTat package in the mail I had to resist the urge to put one immediately on my kid to see how it worked. We had to wait about a week or so before our real life trial: the Scotts Zellwood Sweet Corn Jamboree! Although we had multiple in the package, we didn’t want to waste any. With the child safety temporary tattoo that was custom printed with the cell phone numbers of both myself and my wife, we read the instructions before we packed up for a day of fun and excitement. Application couldn’t be easier! Just like the temporary tattoos you get in a Cracker Jack box, these apply easily with water. You simple peel the clear film off the SafetyTat Child Safety Temporary Tattoo and place design down on the location of your choice. I figured with a squirming 2 year old this would be difficult, but thankfully he was very cooperative that morning. We simply applied a damp paper towel to the paper side of the tattoo and applied slight pressure for about a minute or so. Once the paper was soaked through we carefully peeled off the backing and he was left with our contact information directly on his skin! Because we didn’t know what to expect, we decided to start this process before we even left the house. Looking back, we probably could have done it on the fly as we always have a bottle of water and paper towels with us. The instructions specifically state to be cautious of applying sunscreen prior to placing the SafetyTat Child Safety Temporary Tattoo on your child. Apparently the tats don’t stick well to the sun block. Continue reading →

Safe Kids Day Port Orange

Posted on May 1, 2014 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in Annual Events, Browse By Price, Family, FREE, Nationwide, Safety, Statewide .
safe kids day port orange 2014

safe kids day port orange 2014Over the weekend we were able to attend the Safe Kids Day at the Port Orange Pavilion. We really like this venue, as they have hosted Kids in The Kitchen and a variety of other events. Once you’re done with the event, you can take a stroll around lots of local shops or even stick around to grab a bite to eat or even take in a movie. All in all it was a great day to be out and about.

When we got there, the first thing we noticed was the Port Orange fire truck. The fireman were great and lets kids explore the cab and they took the time to answer questions and really get involved with the little ones. Every time I see firemen interact with kids I’m amazed. If you think about it, there are very few professionals that will let the little ones play on their work vehicle! When was the last time you went to a car show and your little uncle of joy was allowed to sit in a Ferrari? It just doesn’t happen. The firemen were great and very well informed about a variety of topics.

Continuing closer to the event, there were community booths that were setup in addition to the regular Saturday farmers market. I can’t quite tell if they appreciate the extra activities or if they were annoyed at all the goings on. Either way, I’m sure it brought them more business. In addition to a few community booths, we noticed that the Deltona City Firefighters had a great concession stand setup to raise money. They were selling all sorts of hot dogs, hamburgers ad more at reasonable prices. It just seemed a bit odd since Deltona is all the way on the other side of the county. Continue reading →
