Beware of GPS GeoTagging Photos

GPS geotagging photos

iphone geotaggingAs a parent I’m amazed that more folks aren’t informed about GPS GeoTagging Photos when it comes to taking pictures with their smart phone. I suppose I’m guilty of it, you have a really cute photo of your little one, and BAM, you upload it to FaceBook or Twitter for all your friends to see. Or maybe friends of friends, or perhaps the world to see. Did you also realize that you may also be sending your exact location the photo was taken along with the image?

So maybe it’s not that big of a deal, I mean lets face it, your vacation photos of you at Walt Disney World aren’t exactly top secret, but what about those cute family moments? Often times when you snap a quick photo, you are also sending the EXACT GPS coordinates along with the image. This is like a GPS tracker directly to your doorstep! Take a quick moment to see what I’m talking about below: Continue reading →

Apple iPhone Charger Trade In Offer

Posted on August 16, 2013 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in $ Inexpensive, Gear, Nationwide, Safety, Savings, Statewide, Technology .
iphone charger trade in program

iphone charger trade in programOdds are if you own any apple product, you have a vast assortment of charges for them. We personally are an apple family and have multiple products. Now that the lightning charges have been released, we are using a mixture of chargers which can also be a bit expensive. Our previous solution has been to do a quick ebay search and find the cheapest charges we could find straight from China. Sure it took quite a few weeks to get by mail, but for $2 each instead of $19 or more it has always been a good deal. Now you can take advantage of the Apple iPhone charger trade in deal!

Unfortunately in the news recently there have been a handful of issues revolving around unauthorized third party chargers. In fact, one woman was even electrocuted when she went to plug in her iPhone 5 with a bootlegged iPhone charger. Pretty serious huh? Well with that being said we now have two reasons that you will want to get out of your cheap Chinese bootlegged chargers. Safety is certainly an issue, but that’s not all. With the new release of IOS 7 coming out, Apple will stop supporting the cheap bootlegged chargers. How can they do this you ask? Simple, an apple authorized charger has a special chip inside that the new IOS 7 will be able to detect. If it’s legit, no problem you can charge away. If it lacks the special identification chip, then you might as well be using the cord as a USB capable shoe lace! It’s sorta like the special keys for your car. Without the special chip you’re car won’t start., Sneaky I know, but this update has been a long time coming.

FREE CPR TrainingWhile researching fun and free things to do in Florida this weekend I stumbled a great event! On Saturday June 8th, HealthFirst will be sponsoring their annual Free CPR classes in Brevard County! This is  something everyone should know how to do and a must for all parents or anyone who watches children. This annual event is going strong now for five ears and is quite the community event. It started as a way to bring CPR training to local community members and has really morphed into something much more. A morning filled with other activities as well as critical FREE training. The first year, over 125 community members received free CPR classes, and last year over 2,000 attended!

Start your morning off right with a free heat healthy fun run/walk. This 5K event is open to the public and it’s not timed, it’s just for fun. Go for the walk, stay for the free CPR Classes! In addition to both the walk and the training, look what else you can expect:

5K Run/Walk for Your Heart/Heart Healthy cooking demonstrations

Are you a gun safe Mom? Or Dad for that matter?

What’s Gun Safe Mom All About?

While you know that I generally focus on FREE, frugal and cheap ideas, for local Floridians; I wanted to take a few moments to share some information with you. This is not politically motivated, and for a change it actually doesn’t matter what side of the gun control fence you stand on, you need to be gun safe. I ran across an interesting site that simply motivates you to talk openly about unlocked guns in homes. With summer fast approaching, you’ll undoubtedly be hosting and/or sending off the littlest members of your family to other homes for days filled with fun and excitement. Now is a perfect time to address the elephant in the room.

A a parent, I realize that there will come a day when not only will I be sending my little guy off to his friend’s house, but we will also be hosting his friends here in our home. My family is VERY open regarding our views on guns, but after I visited the site, I realized others may not be so comfortable engaging my family in such matters so it’s important to be pro active. SOme folks may feel uncomfortable talking to our family about it. Especially if we don’t really know the other family all the well.

GunSafeMom.com encourages moms, (and yes dads as well) to open a dialogue with the parents of your children’s playmates regarding this critical issue. It’s not about whether or not you own one, should be able to own one, or even carry one concealed, but instead all about gun safety and making sure they are not accessible to minors. Please take a few moments to watch the video below and visit their website. The best thing you can ever do is have an open honest conversation with those around you. You never know, the life that is saved might just be your child’s!

Be Safe Check Your Crime Maps!

Posted on April 16, 2013 by Richard Paczkowski Posted in FREE, Gear, Safety, Statewide, Technology .
check your crime maps before becoming a victim

check your crime maps before becoming a victimHow do you know a Frugal Florida Fun Adventure is safe? Check your crime maps! Something I’m ALWAYS concerned about while planning an adventure is the safety of my family. Because many of my adventures are simply done on the fly, occasionally don’t know where I’m heading. I also don’t know what type of neighbourhood I’m heading into. While I generally feel safe while attending many of the state and federal parks in our area, it can be a bit unsettling heading into the great unknown.

I recently found a great tool that can help guide you on whether or not you may want to head out on an adventure. CrimeMapping.com is a great site to see if you might be heading into a high crime area. While I’m not stereotyping or anything, I am a big fan of statistics. If statistically speaking there is a higher probability you might become a victim of crime while venturing out, you may want to skip a particular location or travel path.
