Although everyone else in the country must hate Floridians because of our great wintertime weather when they are shoveling snow, we get to take advantage of some spectacular Christmas light shows! Hosted by the oldest city in North America, the Holly Jolly Trolley St. Augustine Nights of Lights Tour will be an evening you and your family will never forget! Relax and enjoy over 2 million lights as this historic city comes to life after night fall.
Frugal Florida Fun had an opportunity to send one of our reviewing families out for a night on the town! First let me say that The Holly Jolly Trolley St Augustine Nights of Lights Tour is more than just transportation, it’s entertainment. If you have ever been to St. Augustine, then you know that there are museums, tours, shops, restaurants, and all sorts of things to do. Add Christmas and Christmas lights into the mix and you’ll have a tour you’ll want to keep coming back to year after year. When we first researched the Holly Jolly Trolley St Augustine Nights of Lights Tour, I just thought that it wasn’t anything special, just the regular tour at night driving around St. Augustine. Boy was I wrong!
Our reviewer family quickly noticed this was not just a regular tour. What they experienced was a great evening filled with lights and holiday cheer. For starters, the Holly Jolly Trolley St Augustine Nights of Lights Tour starts at the St. Augustine Visitor center with continuous departures from 6pm to 8pm nightly. Free parking is offered at the two Old Town Trolley Welcome Centers as well as the Old Jail. Public parking is also available at the St. Augustine parking garage for a fee.
So more on the tour. Once our family boarded the trolley, they were given special spectacles. These glasses intensified the light effects and really made all the lights around town shine. In addition, on the side were great coupons for local restaurants and shops. While they were on tour, they were also treated to home-made cookies, hot apple cider and of course Christmas caroling! There are a limited number of stops on the trolley where you can choose to get on and off at your leisure. The tour allowed a few minutes to take photos, and stroll around a bit. If you wanted to stay longer, you can also catch the next trolley to continue your tour.
A new stop on the Holly Jolly Trolley St Augustine Nights of Lights Tour is the Colonial Quarter via candlelight. You can explore this St. Augustine landmark at night and really get a feel for what it must have been like to live in St. Augustine throughout history. You won’t want to miss the complementary admission for you and the entire family. The Colonial Quarter is an experience during the day, but is amazing at night!
Our reviewing family had a great time and loved seeing all the sights and the lights! Their visit also coincided with a special event hosted by the city where they saw soldiers in the streets, and really felt like they had stepped back in time. As far as value is concerned, the Holly Jolly St. Augustine Nights of Lights Tour is a great value for any family size! Adults are $9 Sunday thru Thursday and only $14 each for Friday and Saturday rides. Children 6-12 are $4 any day, children under 6 are offered free trolley passes. In conjunction with the FREE parking at the Old Town Trolley welcome centers, they had a very frugal night that didn’t break the bank! Online ticket purchase is available through their website and is highly recommended. This night-time experience is an annual event that our reviewer family hopes to see again next year!

Fair warning here, it’s difficult to get great pictures completely in the dark, and when you add in Christmas Lights, it only adds to the frustration so the pictures really don’t do this tour justice!
